Free Webinar: Femtocells, Smart Repeaters and UMA: Putting More Pressure on Wireline Telephony
Date:
Thursday, October 30, 2008:
Time: 1:00 PM
This free webinar features wireless industry insiders who can answer the questions that carriers are asking.
- Is improved indoor coverage the catalyst that unleashes a wave of wireless substitution?
- Are femtocells and smart repeaters competitive or complimentary?
- Will UMA and femtocell approaches increase consumer loyalty to their fixed DSL and cable broadband services?
Poor wireless reception inside of homes is about to be “solved.” Over the next year there will be a great deal of momentum behind broadband-enabled femtocells, UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) services featuring Wi-Fi handsets and the new generation of smart repeaters --- all of which will enable strong indoor wireless connectivity. As wireless reception is perfected inside of the home, wireline telephony will continue to be under pressure and more likely to be dropped in favor of a wireless option.
- T-Mobile is marketing unlimited home phone service by offering dual-mode cell phones and leveraging Wi-Fi access points.
- Sprint has launched a femtocell service in the U.S. which improves indoor coverage and connects directly to the subscriber’s home broadband connection.
- The trend towards wireless substitution will only accelerate as 3.5G and 4G networks come on line with even higher data rates. The introduction of smart repeaters may even threaten the growth of DSL and cable broadband.
