USTelecom Supports AT&T Proposal for Intercarrier Compensation Reform and Urges FCC Action
Background: Yesterday, AT&T submitted a filing to the FCC urging the agency to act on the issue of intercarrier compensation. In the filing, AT&T made a broad argument outlining the need for prompt action on the issue and also put forth a proposal of its own for reform of the current intercarrier compensation regime.
The following statement is from USTelecom President and CEO Walter B. McCormick Jr.:
“AT&T’s proposal for reform of the intercarrier compensation system is a call for action and represents another step toward achieving a broad industry consensus on this critical issue. Addressing the problems in the system is crucial to ensuring that our industry can continue providing service and investing billions of dollars every year in broadband networks. The filing is particularly helpful in its reiteration of the industry-supported reforms in the Missoula Plan, especially with respect to unifying terminating compensation. We certainly hope that this latest call for FCC action will drive home the point with the commissioners that reform is a top priority for companies large and small and rekindle the debate on intercarrier compensation. We support Chairman Martin's interest in addressing this issue, and we look forward to Commission action in this area in the fall.”
