A Global Initiative to Combat Cyber Threats to the Internet Ecosystem
Washington, DC – In advance of the delivery of the United States’ cybersecurity botnet Report to the President on May 11, the Council to Secure the Digital Economy (CSDE) today announced its 2018 cybersecurity priorities.
CSDE brings together global companies from across the information technology and communications sectors to combat increasingly sophisticated and emerging cyber threats through collaborative actions. CSDE’s founding partners include Akamai, AT&T, CA Technologies, CenturyLink, Cisco, Ericsson, IBM, Intel, NTT, Oracle, Samsung, SAP, Telefonica and Verizon. The initiative is jointly coordinated by USTelecom – The Broadband Association and the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI).
Motivated by a desire to demonstrate industry leadership across the global ICT sector, CSDE has initiated two projects to address growing threats to the global digital economy from botnets and other automated, distributed attacks.
- First, CSDE will develop and promote an international guide to anti-botnet baseline security practices for key segments within the information and communications technology sectors. CSDE will expand on previous and current international efforts to address the threat these attacks pose to the rapidly growing global digital economy, currently estimated as high as twenty percent of global GDP.
- Second, CSDE will create a global operational framework to rapidly mobilize the ICT sector in the event of a major international cyber emergency. CSDE will develop and test response playbooks designed to support pre-planning activities and improve incident management capabilities.
“As promised, CSDE is already fulfilling its mission of bringing together key players of the global technology and broadband sectors to pursue concrete, measurable, and coordinated ways to secure our global digital infrastructure,” said USTelecom President and CEO Jonathan Spalter. “Our 2018 priorities reflect a logical starting point for mitigating these evolving threats.”
