Energy & Commerce Committee Passage of House Broadband Mapping Bills

Mapping momentum: “The finish line is in sight…”

Background: Today, the full House Energy & Commerce Committee passed the bipartisan ‘Broadband Deployment Accuracy and Technological Availability (DATA) Act’ introduced by Reps. Dave Loebsack (D-IA) and Bob Latta (R-OH) and the ‘Mapping Accuracy Promotes Services (MAPS) Act’ introduced by Reps. Donald McEachin (D-VA) and Billy Long (R-MO) to improve the accuracy of FCC nationwide broadband data maps.

The following statement can be attributed to Jonathan Spalter, president and CEO of USTelecom:

“Mapping momentum passed another important milestone today. The bipartisan, public private coalition working to fix our outdated broadband maps is getting closer to harnessing state-of-the-art technology and data to modernize our national broadband coverage maps and get a clearer picture of who has – and who lacks – broadband connectivity. We’re hopeful these bipartisan bills get quick consideration in the House so future federal broadband spending in rural America benefits from the new and more accurate map. The finish line is in sight.”
