Background: The Federal Communications Commission today voted to address the remaining issues raised by parties challenging the Commission’s orders implementing the Connect America Phase II auction. It also voted to establish procedures for the Connect America Fund Phase II auction, which will award up to $1.98 billion over 10 years to service providers that commit to offering voice and broadband services to fixed locations in unserved high-cost areas.
The following statement is attributed to USTelecom President and CEO Jonathan Spalter:
Today’s FCC votes move us one step closer to the CAF II auction, paving the way for deploying broadband to some of our nation’s unserved, high-cost areas. Now we need to ensure that $2 billion flows quickly and efficiently to rural areas so more Americans have access to broadband connectivity, wherever they live.”
