Statement: FCC’s Action Paves the Way for Better Robocall Blocking

Background: Today the Federal Communications Commission approved a Report and Order on Advanced Methods to Target and Eliminate Unlawful Robocalls which would give voice providers express authorization to block robocalls from spoofed numbers, including unassigned phone numbers and invalid numbers.

This statement is attributed to USTelecom CEO Jonathan Spalter:

“Households continue to be hounded by unscrupulous fraudsters hiding behind spoofed phone numbers in an attempt to scam consumers. Voice providers are working together with other industries, including equipment makers, software developers, standards bodies and law enforcement, on multiple fronts to stop these calls. There’s no one solution to solving the robocall problem, but the FCC’s action today is another step in sweeping away the uncertainty about the tools available to providers to block these illegal calls. That’s good for everyone except the scammers preying on unsuspecting consumers.”
