Job Description:
The Senior Director will work with the Senior Vice President for Policy to anticipate where the communications policy environment and marketplace are headed to better understand, anticipate and develop the industry’s agenda and priorities for the long term; support current Association priorities through research and cross-team collaboration; and support USTelecom’s efforts, including the Common Sense Copyright Coalition.
Working closely with the SVP, this role is designed for an innovative, entrepreneurial, and multi-faceted policy professional who can operate across issue areas and serve as a thought partner on long-term “big think” questions. This position will also work collaboratively and collegially with the USTelecom team that is relentlessly focused on member service.
Responsibilities:
- Help manage and support a portfolio of issues, including copyright/IP, consumer protection, privacy and data governance, and online safety issues.
- Develop and advance innovative, solutions-oriented policy and industry initiatives.
- Provide internal issue-spotting, analysis, and drafting support on new and evolving policy issues—especially but not limited to digital trust—working across teams to translate developments into action.
- Design and drive research and strategy projects that advance USTelecom priorities.
- Convene member and stakeholder discussions and represent USTelecom externally, as needed, on issues within the role’s portfolio—supporting consensus-building, partnerships, and effective engagement.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in relevant policy roles, government, trade association, legal/policy practice, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience working on issues relevant to the broadband/internet/technology community, such as privacy, consumer protection, IP, platform/intermediary liability, internet governance, and/or online safety.
- Strong understanding of public policy development and the legislative and regulatory processes, as well as how they interact.
- Demonstrated ability to independently scope and drive complex projects from early-stage idea through execution.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills; strong analytical skills and sound judgment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfort using modern AI tools to improve research, analysis, and drafting workflows, and a willingness to lead by example in adopting practical innovations.
