USTelecom Applauds Congressional Action to End Our Federal Permitting Nightmare

Washington, DC (November 18, 2025) – Today, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology marked up The American Broadband Deployment Act to reform and improve permitting for construction projects, including broadband builds, on federal lands. USTelecom welcomes this forward progress on eliminating unnecessary barriers to connecting communities across America.

The following statement is from USTelecom President and CEO Jonathan Spalter:

“As our families gather to celebrate Thanksgiving next week, I’ll tell you one thing I’ll be grateful for – the leaders in Washington who are working to cut through excessive red tape and set the table for more broadband deployment across the country.

The fixes we are talking about are not complicated, and would ensure firm shot clocks for approvals, standardize and streamline applications and reviews, and ensure agencies have the resources they need to work quickly and effectively on permits. On behalf of a broadband community eager to build, I’m thankful for this important progress to end our federal permitting nightmare and get our communities connected faster.”
