Statement: Multi-Agency Report on Cybersecurity Delivered to President Trump

Background: The Department of Commerce (DOC) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) delivered a report to President Trump on botnets and distributed attacks.

The following statement can be attributed to USTelecom President and CEO Jonathan Spalter:

“Cyber-attacks are widely recognized as global threats to society—attacks on the unseen structures that protect our way of life—our national security, digital economy, democracy, and personal privacy. President Trump’s 2017 Executive Order (EO) on strengthening the cybersecurity of federal networks was a battle cry to secure our digital infrastructure, and today’s multi-agency report is a shot across the bows of cyber criminals.

“The report’s authors understand the need for consensus and collaboration between industry, society, and government agencies to prevent and mitigate cyber-attacksWe are particularly pleased the report calls for follow-up coordination with industry and other stakeholders; a transparent and collaborative approach that will forge a smoother path—making America safer by protecting our nation’s cyberspace.”
