Statement: USTelecom Welcomes Proposed Elimination of Payphone Rules

Background: The Federal Communications Commission today approved a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and Order aimed at eliminating outdated requirements that carriers complete an annual audit of their payphone tracking systems.

This statement can be attributed to USTelecom CEO Jonathan Spalter:

“Too often federal agencies fail to eliminate rules that have outlived their useful purpose. It’s hard to imagine how any American is served by having telecom providers undergo expensive annual audits of payphone data, since payphone sightings have become almost as rare as a baseball no-hitter. Freeing telecom providers from such unnecessary paperwork requirements will allow them to spend more on priorities like expanding or upgrading broadband networks to serve customers better.”
