Rexburg, Idaho, a town of nearly 40,000, is partnering with Silver Star Communications to upgrade its internal communication infrastructure by installing more than 20 miles of fiber optic cable. This new fiber optic communication infrastructure will allow the city to securely monitor and access buildings, security cameras, and other remote assets in real time.
“The city is always looking for ways to be more efficient and save taxpayer money,” says Rexburg Mayor Jerry Merrill. “Right now, we either don’t have a means of monitoring some remote locations or are using old cellular technology to monitor more critical ones.”
The city of Rexburg awarded the design and management of the project to Silver Star Communications, with an 18 month timeline for completion. This project is being funded through federal funds given to the city through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021.
Silver Star Communications connects customers to its fiber-optic network to deliver innovative communications and technology solutions. In 2021 alone, the company constructed more than 80 miles of fiber and 1,721 fiber drop connections while overbuilding most of Alpine, Tetonia, and Alta as well as new Jackson area developments.
The Rexburg project is just one of many projects either planned or underway this year. The company is also expanding its long-haul capacity, with one two-year project encompassing 330 miles of conduit crossing 11 counties.
