Moapa Valley Telephone President Brad Lyon talks about his company’s century of service connecting customers in Nevada
Tell us about Moapa Valley Telephone.
Moapa Valley Telephone Company is a small, family-owned company with 13 employees serving a community of eight to ten thousand customers in Nevada. Incorporated in 1909, we have been dedicated to providing modern, up-to-date communication services to our customers over 100 years.
What’s your biggest or most recent corporate accomplishment?
Moapa Valley Telephone is a constantly evolving company, always on the lookout for ways to develop and implement new forms of communications technology for an information-hungry, fast-paced world. We are particularly pleased to offer our customers Gigabit fiber to the home.
When you think about your company’s future, what, if anything, keeps you up at night?
We are thriving as we enter our second century of service in rural Nevada. I do, however, spend a lot of time thinking about strategies for remaining price competitive and how 5G is going to impact our network and our business.
What unique challenges does your company face while serving rural communities across the state?
There are inherent challenges to delivering broadband connectivity to rural communities like ours, including density and distance between service locations. Ideally, we would have additional middle mile options.
What are two websites that you can’t get through the day without checking?
A website dedicated to my favorite college football team and news sites in general.
