Pioneer welcomed Oklahoma’s Senator James Lankford (R-Okla.) to a new home fiber install in Woodward, Oklahoma. Pioneer General Manager Blake Callaham and crew members demonstrated the technology and discussed Pioneer’s work delivering fiber internet to rural Oklahoma.
Since 1953, Pioneer has delivered high-quality, reliable communications products and services to thousands of accounts in communities across more than 50 counties in southwest Oklahoma and southern Kansas. Pioneer, member-owned and operated, is future-proofing for its customers by overbuilding existing copper facilities with high-speed fiber to allow access to bandwidth intensive services like streaming video, home security and more.
Pioneer’s buildout is funded in part by the Federal Communications Commission’s Alternative Connect America Fund Model (A-CAM), which will provide approximately $280 million over twelve years to deliver fiber to tens of thousands of rural residents and businesses. Pioneer has committed an additional $100 million of general funds over ten years to deliver fiber to non-A-CAM funded areas.
Here’s a sample of Pioneer projects:
- Construction of 226 miles of buried fiber-optic cable facilities outside Thomas and Custer to serve more than 308 designated locations at a cost of $5.3 million.
- A $2 million build-out in Okeene and Thomas, which will cover 37 miles of fiber and serve hundreds of residents in Okeene and Thomas.
- $5.4 million for deploying 67 miles of fiber to reach residents currently served with copper in Seiling, Mooreland, Lahoma, Cleo Springs, Meno and Ringwood.
- Fiber build-outs in Oakwod, Seiling and Okarche financed through the Rural Utilities Service ReConnect and ACAM programs for 70 miles of fiber at a cost of $1.9 million.
- Construction of 163 miles of mainline fiber-optic cable facilities to serve more than 365 designated locations near Geary and Calumet, costing $5 million.
- Carter and Sentinel build-outs covering 203 miles, 300 customers and costing $6.9 million.
