Statement: USTelecom Board Chair on DHS Cybersecurity Summit Participation

Background: On July 31, 2018 the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) hosted a National Cybersecurity Summit convening stakeholders from government, industry, and academia for a series of expert panels and discussions on strengthening national cybersecurity. Four USTelecom members participated, including Anand Vadapalli, Chair of the Board and CEO of Alaska Communications; Rusty Moore, Chair of the USTelecom Leadership Committee and General Manager of Big Bend Telephone; and John Donovan, CEO of AT&T Communications. USTelecom President & CEO Jonathan Spalter participated in a panel discussion on ICT industry perspectives.

The following statement can be attributed to Anand Vadapalli, USTelecom Chair and CEO of Alaska Communications:

“As the country’s connectors, the broadband industry— and the entire communications sector— operates on the frontline of the battle against cyber threats. But this is not an issue we can tackle in silos. It will take the collective expertise and dedication of the public and private sectors to stop bad actors in their tracks and fortify America’s defenses in cyberspace.

“Today’s summit with DHS was a step in the right direction, and USTelecom’s members will continue to lead globally in the development of our collective cyber defense. We hope this event will be a catalyst for continued collaboration for every sector invested in the security of our digital economy.”
