Background: At an open commission meeting today, the FCC adopted an order establishing auction procedures for Phase I of the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF), an infrastructure program that will award up to $16 billion in support over 10 years for deployment of broadband services in unserved areas.
The following statement can be attributed to USTelecom president and CEO Jonathan Spalter:
“Today’s action by the Commission is an important step to ensure the RDOF auction remains on track. This essential investment will narrow the digital divide, maximize rural deployment and target the truly unserved. After a thorough and transparent process, the FCC established these rules to produce competitive bidding and ensure the most efficient and expedited deployment. Our members, with a track record of building broadband in the hardest to reach corners of the country, are ready to compete in October and continue their mission of connecting all Americans, no matter where, no matter what.”
