USTelecom Statement on LIFT America Act

Background: Today U.S. Representative Frank Pallone (D-NJ-06), Chairman of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, introduced The Leading Infrastructure For Tomorrow’s America Act, or LIFT America Act. The bill includes $40 billion for the deployment of secure and resilient broadband, $12 billion in grants for the implementation of Next Generation 9-1-1, and $5 billion in federal funding for low-interest financing of broadband infrastructure deployment.

The following statement can be attributed to Jonathan Spalter, president and CEO of USTelecom:

“Chairman Pallone is spot on—we need a massive national commitment to improve American infrastructure—right now. This includes smart and substantial direct funding mechanisms that allow for faster and more widespread broadband deployment everywhere. This bill creates a clear path forward to bring more Americans online and direct public funds to unserved communities most in need of service. Both chambers of Congress must be laser-focused on passing meaningful infrastructure legislation which will pay dividends in the form of national productivity, connectivity, and growth.”
